Moved by the problems faced by the people with mental and emotional
problems, Fr. T. Stanislaus, a Catholic Priest,
established PUNAR JEEVAN Counseling and Mental Health Service Center
in the year 1992. It was registered under Indian Trust Act in
the year 1992 with the number 84/92. It is a voluntary, non- profit
making organization, which upholds the human and social values
in its commitment to the poor and those who have psychological
problems. Its services reach out the needy irrespective of caste,
creed, race and religion.
From its inception, Punar Jeevan aimed at catering the needs
of the people of the three southern most districts of Tamil Nadu;
namely, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. From 1992 to 2002,
Punar Jeevan was functioning at Kanyakumari District. To reach
out many more people more effectively, the administrative office
and the centre were shifted to Thalapathi Samuthiram Keelur of
Tirunelveli District in 2002. This place is strategically located
to reach the people from the three districts.
Enhancing the quality of life of the people by facilitating promotion
of mental health and a conducive environment for a healthy living.
To work for emotional and psychological wellbeing of the people
through Promotion of Awareness on Mental Health, Prevention of
mental illnesses, Early Identification, Treatment, Counseling
and referral services in accordance to their need.

and intervene in their life
4. To reduce the stigma towards mental illness through public
education
5. To promote community participation in mental health service
6. To assist patients in their assimilation into the main stream
of society
7. To safeguard the rights of the mentally ill and to protect
them from exploitation
8. To integrate mental health services with other health services
